Perth & Kinross Outdoor Access Forum Open Meeting and Elections
The Perth & Kinross Outdoor Access Forum is to hold its annual open meeting at the Bells Library, Perth on Tuesday 11 May 2010 from 6.30pm.
During the meeting elections to fill vacated seats on the Forum will be held and the Forum would now like to invite applications from people interested in standing.
The body has now been active for six years and the open meeting gives an opportunity for all those concerned with outdoor access in Perth & Kinross to find out more about the Forum’s progress to date. This will be the fith time since its creation in June 2004 when an election to replace members who must now stand down will be held.
The Forum was established and is supported by the Council as a requirement of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. Convener and Vice Convener of the Forum, Nick Cole and Peter Person , will introduce the evening and explain how the Forum’s responsibility to offer advice to the Council and others who consult them is carried out. Guest speaker Dr Tim Edwards from Scottish Natural Heritage will talk about how the right of responsible access to the outdoors has impacted during the first five years and give views on future priorities in promoting responsible access. Guest speaker Paul McLennan Manager of the Perth & Kinross Countryside Trust will talk about how the Trust facilitates and encourages access to the outdoors for everyone throughout Perth & Kinross.
The 16-strong membership of the Forum comprises 4 categories of interest group; landmanagers, recreational users, community and agency, each with four representatives. Three seats are now vacated, one each from landmanagers, community and recreation. Anyone with an interest in access to the countryside is welcome to attend and consider applying for a seat on the Forum. Those attending will be asked to take part in proposing candidates through the election procedure.
