Path Maintenance Basics

This course is free to community volunteers (£75 to non-volunteers)

This one day course provides a hands on, basic introduction to inspecting and maintaining paths.  In this course, you will experience learning within both an indoor and outdoor environment, putting theory into practice. 

• Importance of maintenance
• Maintenance planning – developing a suitable maintenance schedule for your own path network
• Inspections – the ‘adopt a path’ approach to looking for faults, problems or changes on your path network
• Planned routine maintenance tasks – the basic tasks that can be completed whilst inspecting your path network
• Reactive minor repairs – the minor works required to quickly fix faults, problems or changes on your path network
• A path manager’s perspective on maintaining paths
• Latest techniques and materials for maintaining or repairing paths, and;
• Sharing ideas, information, case studies and inspiration.

A practical outdoor session at local community path network will provide:

• A hands on opportunity to inspect and carry out planned maintenance tasks and reactive minor repair works on an existing path network.

Who is the event for?

This event is open to anyone involved in, or interested in practical day to day maintenance of paths – community path groups, path managers, access officers, rangers, contractors.
